Fishing Bible Quotes

According to the Bible, Jonah was swallowed by a whale or large fish?
I read the Bible together in both directions. Why is there uncertainty?
I would be very surprised if in fact the Hebrews had a word for whale. There was no reason anyone in their civilization ever had seen a whale, because there are no whales in the Mediterranean. I'll tell you that says "big fish." The only whale that is physically capable of swallowing a human being is a sperm whale - whales have a large esophageal about the diameter of a grapefruit. Wikipedia tells us in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonah The_fish #: "Although often called a whale today, the Hebrew, as in all the scriptures, refers to any particular species, you can simply" big fish "or "Big fish" (whales are now classified as mammals and fish, but no such distinction was made in antiquity). "" In Jonah 2:01 (1:17 in English translation), the original Hebrew text says dag gadol (דג גדול), which literally means "big fish." The Septuagint translates this phrase into Greek as megas Ketos (κητος μεγας). The deadline Ketos just means "big fish", and mythology Greek the term was closely associated with sea creatures including sea snakes. (See theoi Project "Kete" for more information about Greek mythology and Ketos.) Jerome later translated this phrase as Granda in his Latin Vulgate piscis. Ketos translated, however, as Cetus in Matthew 12:40. In Cetus some point became a synonym for "whale" (the study of whales is now called Cetology). In 1534 translation, William Tyndale translated the phrase in Jonah 2:1 as "Greate fyshe and Ketos translated the word (in Greek) or Cetus (Latin) in Matthew 12:40 as" whale. " Tyndale translation was later incorporated into the Authorized Version of 1611. Since then, the big fish "in Jonah 2 has been most often interpreted as a whale." I do not think any of this happened. Even if an animal was able to swallow a whole human being, such an unfortunate certainly not survive a stay of any length inside the stomach.
