Fishing Cape Coral Canals

Are Oscars in my canal edible?
I am talking about the exotic invasive fish in Cape Coral Fresh Water Canals.
Oscars are very good to eat , especially fried whole (no guts of course.) They are also very fun to catch, hard fighters, even the little ones think they're monsters. There is a word of caution though, people should eat fresh water fish in moderation. You should check the health advisory page : http://www.doh.state.fl.us/floridafishadvice/
for info on fish advisories in your area.
Some of the best baits for Oscars is Missouri Minnows. That's what we call down here, not sure what they would call 'em else where. Their long skinny minnows ( about the size of ones pinky) found at bait shops. Oscars love these minnows so much that they eat 'em like the world was going to end.
You can use any favorite method to cook these fish to your liking, most prefer frying them though. ~ good luck catchin'.
