It is very easy to reclaim traded WoW accounts and people are being scammed by this all the time.

Gifting (giving), trading and selling accounts is against Blizzards TOS. They have gotten very good at recognizing accounts that have changed hands. Accounts that have been transferred in one of these ways can be banned. Then not only would you not have access to any characters on that account, but you will have wasted the money you spent.
