fishing in New Mexico?

I'm from Florida, and now live in Roswell, and I want to start fishing again, but there really is not anywhere good to fish this way we Brantley Lake Carlsbad and the Pecos runs through the city, but I'm not eating anything from there. I want to find a place in the mountains around this area (not pretty in Ruidoso) take day trips, or fish as possible / camping trips for the weekend, somewhere where not many people so my dog is not bothering anyone. I want something more local, but if it's a great point II wouldnt mind going north to Santa Fe, or west to the Gila. Cloudcroft area also is nice, and I wouldnt mind finding a place there. I would also like a place you can camp and fish in the same area (eg, camping in a river or lake) Thanks for any help.

Lake in Fort Sumner Sumner is very good for Walleye, Bass (LM, SM, Kentucky, White) and a few Pike catfish. Trout are stored behind the landfill during the cold months, and There Bass, walleye and fairly decent sized channel cat. If planning to fish the spillway, call ahead to make sure the area is open fishing as it is sometimes closed the area to release water from landfill. Ute and Conchas are also good (I prefer Ute) and not crowded, except during the summer months and weekends. One day a week fishing trip to Ute is usually very quiet during the spring and fall. You will need a boat to fish these lakes as access to coast is limited by the high banks and most rugged areas. Another good place for fishing / camping Pecos wilderness, although I've only been during the summer. Do a WebSearch for more information on the best opportunities. The links listed DJ has some very good information as well. If you are looking for a place to fish not listed in the list, send me an email and let you in on a few places not so well known.
