Fly Fishing Small Creeks

Fishing for rainbow TROUT!?

I haven't fished in a while and my dad hasn't caught a fish in years (even though he goes out quiet often). He was even skeptical when i suggested power bait instead of the lures he generally uses.

We live along a river with various shallow creeks branching off of it. Today we tried fishing in a back eddie between 7pm-9:30pm and didn't get as much as a bite (although i fought some weeds for a solid 5 minutes thinking it was a small fish lol).

In the back eddie my dad was Fly Fishing and i was using the following rig: a bobber connected 6 feet above a sinker, and a small hook 1 foot below the sinker. I tried using both orange and green power bait to cover the hook. I saw about roughly 30 fish jump out of the water while we were there too, just taunting us. what are we doing wrong?

Any suggestions?
(does the location and type of rig sound about right?)

Location: Trail BC, Columbia River

Thanks!

Try using lures with bait that works for me.Something like a kamloops spoon or a crocodile lure seems to attract the trout. Also try fishing in deeper water as the fish go deeper in hot weather as the top layers of water warm up.The warmer the water the less dissolved oxygen for the fish.Trout species are good jumpers and they may have been going after some flying bugs for lunch. Also ty a leader onto your line and move the sinker slightly higher so the fish don't see it.good luck and good fishing eh.
