The first days of January saw the end of a holiday for a few people who spent Christmas with us. It is always a sad moment, as people who came out as clients and leave as friends but most rebooked for all to meet again. At time of writing this report, the heat wave continues, we are taking the best January in history, sun is unrelenting, and every day is 100 degrees. We have not had a drop of rain in five weeks, the lake has shrunk by foot, watering plants twice a day from the lake. The gardens are struggling in the heat of the jungle that surrounds us, the trees are brown, so I just hope the fire is not! The intense heat and flat conditions of calm are making fishing very difficult, especially for arapaima, are simply no food is difficult at all, just take the odd snack. The Mekong catfish have seriously begun to feed again however, and it seems that the line as the hot weather too. Speaking of raya, I was landing a fisherman Eric Keogh, and rays are difficult to network - it takes two or three of us to mistreat the network. As I was pushing the fish into the net, waving his tail, impaling her sting on my foot, and in my life I never experienced pain like it! In seconds my whole leg was on fire, it was like someone pushing a hot iron over my leg, and all my muscles began to take as I went into shock.
The guys at the lake included in our car and I like crazy to the local hospital, where they had been pre-warned of our arrival. The hospital staff were on duty, and took me to emergency. By then, the pain was unbearable, and my shirt was soaked with sweat. Immediately two doctors appeared and started injecting anesthetics and with my foot like substance anti-venom. Then the doctor cut open the wound and remove the sting and black skin that covers the sting. The wound was packed with antibiotics and cotton wool. I had to go to hospital every day for over a week for more injections, and have the wound open and clean. All lines in the lake had taken their bites, but did not realize that every so often you have two stingray stings. This had been overlooked and had two; the bite to the tail folds up and we needed this. The fish had its sting removed 110 pounds this time. We have over 200-pound line on the lake, and in the future not net them this way until we are sure the bite is absent. Fishing in the lake is perfectly safe as streaks remain away from people. They are like any creature - if cornered and lash out panic. The only time they bite is when you start annoying them. It was my fault for being blas? about these beautiful fish. I'll have more respect for them next time, and for the safety of our customers are not permitted fisherman on the lake until the fish has been contained and safe. This ensures that our customers are 100% secure at all times. For freshwater line registration is believed to reach 1,000 pounds with 5 million scale, so that this fish really was a baby at 110 pounds. Yes, can you imagine a hornet 110 pounds? We have five different species of fish in more than 100 pounds Gillhams, and landing these big fish is dangerous. We are professionals, but it still hurt, a time lapse of concentration is all that is needed. I will repeat customers are safe as long as take our advice and not enter the water until we say it is 100% safe.
We are still getting the stranger, with emphasis on foreign, who come here, get a huge fish and feel disappointed because they wanted bigger. One type of this month had a 60 pound Chao Phraya catfish, only four pounds a world record, but he wanted a picture, because in his words that he will wait for a big fish. Even admitted it was the biggest fish he had caught ever! Mind you the same person had the largest tent, but waited for a bigger one, then arapaima and had a large red tail catfish in a day, he was disappointed also because he had to wait seven hours in a whole between the fish! Oh, where have come? Luckily, the nice guys who love catching fish outweigh these fishermen call. Some people just want a picture of the trophy, and do not wish to in any effort. We even get some that are emptied several fish do not get 100 pounds a day with a pair of 300 pounds of fish over thrown in. We are thinking start a new service for these people where people can order your fish online, we will improve your cup behind a fish and send them to the image of your prize without them even having taken the trouble to come here, and I bet you would have some takers! The most annoying people who come here really wind us up are the litter louts. Last week we had a fool to come here actually called his self Gayland (no joke) with her two boyfriends, which I guess is called Ben Dover and Phil McCavity! Now he (she) was the typical idiot who just wanted an opportunity trophy. On arrival, said the beauty of the place is, just to throw garbage everywhere your swim! Luckily I was out all day and just missed his exit, because their swim was an absolute tip of trash scattered everywhere. Was children ten minutes to clean up the mess of food wrappers, cigarette butts and trash in general! If I had been there I would have put the rubber gloves and dragged for the blouses to clarify their own mess! We supply the trash bags and have pots of sand at the fag end anything, so please use them. I personally get really angry at cigarette butts lying on the ground or tossed into the lake. It makes me wonder what houses of these people are like. That's it - monthly scream more!
Back to a bit of humor - my manager Watt, bless him, Sean is very gullible and got him a treat this month. Watt wanted to know how he could increase the size of his manhood, to be briefed on a cream called 3-in-one three times the size of your forehead, and the poor girl they believed Watt. My daughter Becca Immac depilatory bought more for Christmas, so I put in a normal bottle and presented it to Watt. He was our man of local police security, the cream smeared around their sides, and sat for about an hour talking about what they were going to do with their new weapons king size! After an hour washing the cream, along with all its forests. They came to see me in a state of horror and shock, but were very relieved when I told them, is the first stage of growth and to repeat it next month. Oh, what a horrible person I am! Roll on next month!
The method top of this month seems alien to European fishermen, but many of carp Siamese are coming to a fishing method feeder three feet below a float with a golf ball-sized fishmeal boilie suspended under it. Now I wonder, that this approach works in European waters? The first of the newcomers were our dear friends from Holland and Betty Wilson, who arrived last year for a few days and stayed a couple of weeks prior to an epic motorcycle journey from India back to Holland. This time his trip was domesticated, which go straight Thailand and return flight. We are planning a trip together now to June, when we go into the jungle to the Thai mahseer fishing, that's when the problems in the Congo are not finished, because when they do we are all planning to race to catch a Goliath Tiger fish. Last year Wil and Betty came as customers, and this year, as with many our guests back as friends. They planned a five-day trip here, and once again stayed longer - as Wil got into fishing, the trip came to ten days. We were fearing another group that came to us, as we had 30 people. We had to arrange a speedboat to get to an island 50 miles away and minibuses for transport from the beach up here, but they were an absolute joy to host. The whole day went smoothly, and even managed to accommodate at night when I did not want to leave. There was not one person in the group that was no problem, but the fish kept their nuts though because it has never been so many lines in the lake at once. Paul and Lorraine, has been a pleasure to welcome everyone and we look forward to everyone returning this year for a holiday. As for Lorraine, she deserved a medal the organization of the entire party for 30.
We also had visits from two brothers who nicknamed The Wurzels, a very good couple of guys who lived on a farm in the country, and decided to have an affair. They had never been outside their county, let alone the country, and had never heard of a place called Oxford, where Kevin is our guide. Imagine the surprise of the boys when they landed in Thailand! Apparently, at home are not going to drink, "dranking Wed'ze do come out, is Wed'ze Tech in a cup of tea in different seasons orf. "We ask a brother if he saw the man in the land against the great Mekong catfish. He replied: Nooooooo, I wachin tRNAs Warz 'der - Loik oi tRNAs, which is fazinating indzects. "Yes, they were characters themselves, really nice guys in an adventure and what would be his return to the farm explaining all the things they had seen his family, "Duz yoo nowz Thailand theyz eat in that one Bugz snakez fragments, and do der even girls I have hair on end, not like our system AAT all nowz yer! "I must stop, but kept us entertained and were real nice guys.
So now enough of my foolishness and fishing. This month has seen days of 45 entries (30 in a group) and 38 guests fishing days in Thailand, fishing in Thailand for a few days to a couple of weeks. Among them landed 465 fish of 15 species, composed as follows ... Arapaima 25 400 pounds, 12 to 180 pounds of catfish Mekong Siamese carp 255 to 120 pounds, 72 red tail catfish 80 pounds, gar five to 15 pounds, four Asian red-tailed catfish to 30 pounds, 13 to 30 pounds black pacu, seven Chao Phraya catfish of 65 pounds, 19 to 35 pounds sorubim stained, Julian goldfish award four to 25 pounds, eight stained featherback 10 pounds, 17 rohu carp to 16 pounds, 18 Striped snakehead four pounds, five giant streak of 120 pounds and 24 pounds a Wallago Attu.
As mentioned above Wil, with their environment much better Betty Holland were the first guests in the new after Christmas. The fishing was slower this year than last, but as Wil targets big fish it suited him and your fishing style. Wil goal this year was to fish for carp Siam. Betty again became chief photographer, reporter, general gopher, and the live bait catcher. Betty loves fishing Floating our minor species, but Wil did strict rules - you can not fish float before 9am, not to scare the fish! Wilson finished his session with five arapaima to 200 pounds Siamese carp 13 to 110 pounds and three Mekong catfish to 130 lbs. That's three species on a journey of more than 100 pounds! He also had five red-tailed catfish to 45 pounds, and rohu some and pacu.
The newcomers next new that came to us through Siam Fishing tours were put back Marcos with his wife Carol totally non-fishing. Never in my life met someone in better shape Mark, a sweet boy who just go with the peace and tranquility of Gillhams. We actually had to pick up Mark and his team and move it to a different place, and for four days of Mark stared in awe at the beauty of our town, not to throw the fish show, or sometimes even for If failing to deliver. Poor Mark ended the trip with a single fish (mind you that was one more fishing tours Siam was able to obtain). He has promised to return with his head in fishing next time, but look, Mark showed that it is not necessary to catch fish to enjoy a trip here. Wizard for a day-ticket Terry Pearl Necklace came for a day in the busiest day of the month when we had the group of 30, but he saw enough to accommodate a four-hour session the next morning, Krabi before leaving, and enthusiasm paid off with a catfish of 55 pounds Chao Phraya and three 40-pound Siamese carp. Ian Norris, an expatriate living in Australia was as usual, a journey of 24 hours, and left it 'til the last minute to catch, but it was worth the wait when I first got a rare Wallago Attu 24 pounds, followed by Siamese carp always friendly, Black Spot, 70 pounds.
Steve Cox made a return visit for a three-day trip with his partner Colin and two friends in Thailand Kuan and Jay, who are regulars at Bungsamlan lake in Bangkok. The boys of Thailand gave the British a lesson two sound fisheries with his knowledge of the species in Thailand fish landing 25-11 fish on Britt! Everytime Coxie Gillhams, a large Siamese carp out, and this trip was no exception because as he left Wil tent 110 lbs. Another visitor was 48 hours builder Steve Holberry in Manchester with his partner Mark. They landed 12 fish between them, with the icing on the cake goes to Steve how Siam tent 90 pounds. The shoemakers of Manchester, John Ross and Slim, made the short drive to Phuket for a 1? day trip. Slim John just to be part the first day, and retired knackered after landing seven carp in a short burst of action, the decision to quit while ahead, and work their way through our menu of restaurant! Ross gave everything in between, fishing 'until the final whistle for a distance of six to 60 pounds Siamese carp, catfish 50 pounds a red tail, and a Mekong catfish 150 pounds. This fish took him around the lake, while Slim sat down to eat a box of cakes. Judging by the amount consumed by Slim, we estimated the fight took an hour, or 10 feet, 11 cakes, ice cube, and gay 20!
Then came the brothers Ricky and The Incredible Hulk Clark Terry. These two giants were field of sound types who came and enjoyed every moment of your stay. They came with the hope of a arapaima, but what was captured a bonus - Only the necessary attitude to fish here. Now the first day of Ricky, who is about 10 feet tall with a physique that makes Arnie look like a wimp, caught a nice Mekong catfish. He tore the landing net like a small fish, "How large", he asked? Well, judging from the ease with which he had just lifted, he would have said that five pounds, but it was for 120 pounds instead not to offend! "No," said he, "I have 180 pounds," and who was I to argue? But to humor him, I went to lift, and amid the laughter of all, I almost followed through, and to make sure it was easily 180 pounds. Ricky went on to have three Mekong, 17 Siamese carp, two red-tailed catfish, a pacu, and their target species, a good arapaima 200 lbs. Terry, who is the same size Ricky, with arms like hams, fish ten between these two arapaima 100 pounds-plus. I am very happy that the brothers were here when they were, as during this time I had the misfortune with the line, and the boys pulled me from the lake as a feather and ran me to the waiting car. Thank you both, I owe you one. The heat was not doubt that the stripes in the diet, because two days later, Keith Liverpool fell another one, minus a bite! This fish weighed 120 pounds, and offset by a arapaima lost.
Another relaxed Mr. Nice Guy, Ken Weeks, booked in a week. Ken came to relax and hopefully catch a few fish. It was fun to be with him and enjoyed their stay here. The early days Ken refreshed ourselves in the bad swim, but was not bothered. Later in the week moved to the other end of the lake, landing 31 fish for the week. He got into a school of carp Siamese, and took 18 to 50 pounds. At the same time, my dear friends Carol and Jamie Martinez came just a quiet place rest for ourselves. Jamie did a couple of short sessions between the pool and enjoy the scenery, while Carol disclosed his secret meat and kidney pudding and re-copy the milk fat and Steve. Oh mate, these are to die for, and now are on the menu here in Gillhams - I have already put in another 20 pounds! best fish Jamie was one of five 65-pound red tail. I had a question before Christmas of a guy with the name of Jerker wishing to visit during a trip of 48 hours. I thought it was a rope a companion, but actually turns out to be a popular name in Scandinavia - it seems there are plenty of jerkers there! I guess when they say that it was Jerk! Sorry, could not resist that, it's a bit like the boy called Wayne Kerr. OK back to the story ... Jerker was a fishing fanatic, was booked three bars, and was encouraged from the moment he arrived. Ida had his best half with him, and what a pair! Ida said she could fish, but only wanted the use of corn or boilies to catch fish no bigger than him. Ida's first day was a machine, having eight Siamese carp feed in a short spell, but the day next Jerker properly trounced with a 150-pound catfish of the Mekong in the morning, followed by three Siamese carp to 120 pounds. While all this was happening, the poor Jerker in the next two fish landing beaches. The following week Jerker turned to fish one day and to salvage the poor Ida was not allowed to fish! He a better day, probably due to Ida showed him what to do, landing five fish with a few small tents, by the rules of Ida, up to 55 pounds, along with a nice featherback around 12 pounds.
Reiner Dream Lake in Chiang Mai Austria Andreas sent his client to us. By the time they were in the midst of a heat wave and fishing was slow, but within a week he managed 21 fish of five species. Its aim featherback escaped him, but on the last day, last time fished, Andreas landed a fish dream in the form of a arapaima 400 pounds! This was the same fish that rescued Len Gurd trip last month, again in the last time of the last day. This arapaima is simply putting on weight - are seeded at 300 pounds and avoided capture for 18 months. We are confident that, if not for the next catch 18 months, will reach 500 pounds! At the same time, as we had German Andreas Peter client for three days. Pedro target were predators, and scored two arapaima, at best 160 pounds-plus, a stripe 85 pounds, and also had three red-tailed catfish. Germany has been making a good appearance here this month, and our German end customer for the month was a fan of Michael Zellner catfish, which came during four days, and immediately rebooking July, when the heat wave will be well and more really, because it is the rainy season to date. Michael has landed nine fish due to extreme heat, as we experienced the warmest January in history, but yes the land of his dream of fish, one of the 120 pounds arapaima. Michael was the attitude of what we want around the world would enjoy the holiday - a big fish is the party, and I could see enough potential here if the weather is kind to re-book.
A bit of a sad way to describe the next visitors. Here in Gillhams want everyone to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the lake. We have designed a fisheries specialist for the angler where patience is rewarded with more fish Big dreams. Most people catch a fish sleep in a week, and twice or three. We have never claimed Gillhams as a place of fishing for mackerel in which to catch a fish a chuck from a stock pond overcrowding where all the fish are starving and emaciated. Our fish are the biggest and best fish conditioned in Asia due to low population density and an abundance of natural foods. You should expect about four fish a day with a fish sleep as a bonus. Henk and Employment of the Netherlands had not done their homework, because if you look through our website you will see that we are not a unique species crowded bowl, and we chose the area for its peace, tranquility and beauty, not as in Bungsamlan Bangkok, where you can sit with a multitude of lines that cross between the muppets skyscrapers and smoke, dragging bags of dead catfish hunger, badly beaten, before returning to your hotel through traffic jams for a night of debauchery in the bars of girls. Unfortunately it was not for Henk Gillhams and Employment, so after a few days time fishing only part that landed six fish, with a streak of 80 pounds and Siamese carp of 50 pounds, before heading back to Bangkok for a wild time in the bars, and the hooks stick in the half-starved and many Mekong catfish and tatty from the crowd.
In contrast to Henk and Employment, the next guest had read about us and wanted peace, tranquility and big fish in a beautiful environment. The spritely 70-years-young Arthur Hawkins, with its delightful fishing partner and wife Angie, came for a week on the way home from visiting his daughter and grandchildren in Australia. Arthur first notice through Gillhams Gary Newman's article in Anglers Mail after mail Fishermen visit here. Arthur's goal was a big fish of any kind, as he wanted to win a hat Jonny abroad. In a week of relaxation and a second honeymoon, Arthur landed 13 fish of five species, the best are two arapaima to 220 pounds and four red-tailed catfish to 75 pounds. Not to be outdone, Angie showed just what women can do, was a fisherwoman very competent and well experienced is enjoying retirement with Arthur, the fisheries around the world. Angie landed 12 fish of four species, the best is four red-tailed catfish to 80 pounds and six Siamese carp of 45 pounds. If the poor had lost Angie a couple of big fish, one being an arapaima, Arthur would have eclipsed. The couple realized that both the extreme heat is slowing fishing, but agreed that it would Gillhams still be a paradise without the fish - in his words that the fish were a bonus. Top couple, fishing up - let's see the two end of the year.
Gillhams is beginning to be felt in Singapore, so if any of our fans in Singapore are reading this and know the dates of the fishing fair in Madrid, please email me so we can attend and show only what we have, only 1? hour flight from Singapore. A guy who made the trip this month was Nick Wheeler, an ex-pat English working and living there, Nick came with his wife and daughter a year old, for a week's holiday with three days fishing, and landed ten fish in three days six species, with arapaima to 120 pounds, Chao Phraya catfish of 60 pounds, 65 pounds of baby Mekong catfish, red tail catfish plus 65 pounds, along with Siamese carp sorubim and ultimately a fair bit of sport for a short trip.
