How to take care of a goldfish?

I know this may be a silly question, but my bf just bought me a goldfish. I have never had a gold fish before...only bettas so I am not sure how often to change the water and what temp. it should be at and all that fun stuff! Thanks!

One big difference in gold fish and bettas is the amount of room they need. A betta can do well in a fairly small container, but a goldfish needs room. A fancy goldfish will get a good 5-7" long and will need a 20 gallon tank by the time it is grown. A comet goldfish will need far, far more room than that as they can get 18" long or more. So you need to plan on having a 20 gallon tank with a filter and hood for your new fish before long at all. Feed it goldfish pellets or flakes from any decent pet shop. It will not need a heater as goldfish are cold water fish. Other than that the same stuff applies to the gold fish as to the betta, keep the tank clean and don't over feed it.
