Lingcod Fishing Puget Sound

What weight of lead should I use on my jig?

I fish in the Puget Sound. I'm a experienced fishermen but I'm trying something new. I'm using a sardine type jig for lingcod and salmon everything basicly, but how heavy of a weight should I use?

If you are using a rubber type swim bait they are absolutely deadly on lingcod, rockfish, cabezon and even halibut from time to time. Adjust your weight to where the fish are holding. With the fish i just mentioned that is usually close to the bottom. I have used any where from 1/2 oz on 3 inch swim baits to 16 oz in deep water with larger swim bait type jigs. I have found that purple and white and anchovy colors are usually just as good as the sardine colored ones.

I have also caught salmon on the jigs but again target the depth you wish to fish by adjusting you weights. You also have to decide if you want a bouncing retrieve, swimming retrieve or a vertical jigging presentation. I have used all three with great results. Good luck!
