I need some fishing advice?

I asked this early but people told me to put more information I went fishing with a couple of friends two days, only caught one fish. We are using anchovies walmart because we are pious as they are fishing on Lake Mead east of Las Vegas NV're fishing from the shore there are fish And there stripers cat (I think) that is fresh water do not have much money (that's why we use anchovies) is the best bait for catfish and stripers? or any advice that will make us best men fishing:)
