How I can fix a broken mainspring under my old desk chair solid oak?

He is old and solid oak. He turns and there is a mechanism below to rocking back and forth. The mechanism is of two major sources of heavy metals in a house with no access, I can see. (No bolts or screws to remove for access.) A spring looks good, but the other one is in at least two parts since it has been broken now stuck in odd positions if have their position in a particular way.
